Bioidentical Hormones vs Synthetic Hormones
What are Bioidentical Hormones?
Bioidentical hormones are an exact replica of the hormones that are naturally produced by the body: matching the body's natural hormones molecule by molecule.
How are Bioidentical Hormones made?
Bioidentical hormones for women are female hormones based on compounds found in plants (usually wild yams and sometimes soy). Bioidentical hormones are processed by a highly trained pharmacist. Once the plant-based hormone is processed, its structure is identical to the estrogen, and progesterone, and DHEA produced naturally by one's body. This is what makes bioidentical hormones natural and is the reason why our bodies can metabolize them naturally as it was designed to do, with minimal or no bioidentical hormone risks or side effects.
Why not Synthetic Hormones?
Synthetic hormones are made from animal estrogens and plant based hormones that are chemically altered, but are not identical to the hormones you body uses. Usually an extra covalent bond or molecules is added so that it can be patented. Synthetic hormones act as toxins since their chemical makeup cannot be metabolized properly..
With Synthetic hormones it is not uncommon for the wrong hormone to be prescribed because a certain hormone imbalance was mistakenly assumed( i.e. assuming a women needs estrogen when she in fact needs progesterone).
Hormones and Cancer
Many women are scared off by connections that have been made between between hormones and cancer. It is important to understand that these studies link synthetic hormones to breast cancer, ovarian cancer and uterine cancer. There have been NO reported studies that equate bioidentical hormones and cancer.
Synthetic estrogen has been found to increase a woman's chancers of developing breast and ovarian cancer. High levels of estrogen are linked to breast cancer. These high labels can occur when your progesterone is too low, not uncommon in menopause, and when synthetic estrogen replacement therapy is being used.
To Recap...
Hormones work together like a symphony ; a problem with just one hormone, or instrument, throws off all of the others. Progesterone is the "Balancing Hormone" synthetic hormones attempt to correct hormones without consideration for how it will affect and specifically progesterone, leads to hormone harmony and relief of symptoms.
I have been studying hormones for over 30 years and I use natural progesterone products.
In fact, Dr. John R. Lee, author of Progesterone, The Remarkable Hormone of a Remarkable Hormone helped me formulate my cremes.
Dr. Lee is considered to be the penultimate expert in bio-identical hormones.
